Foundation Paws… for gun dogs!

A beginner training class for gun dog puppies and adolescents, great as either a follow on from puppy class or to start your training journey - suitablefor puppies and young dogs up to 18 months.

 Does your Labrador always greet you with a toy in their mouth? Is your spaniel forever stealing socks? Does your vizsla / setter / spaniel / labrador / (insert your gun dog breed here!) disappear off hunting? Does your golden retriever melt when they pick up their favourite toy? Does your spaniel get suspicious of you when they’ve found a treasure?

Gun dogs have been bred to do some very specific tasks which can translate into some really endearing behaviours & personality traits in our pet gun dogs.  But… they can also drive us up the wall and sometimes even cause conflict between us & our dogs.

Foundation Paws for gun dogs will teach you some of the core skills that working gun dogs require to be successful using kind, thoughtful training. 

In doing so you will learn more about your gun dog breed, how to prevent conflicts from arising & how to fulfill their inherent needs whilst improving your relationship and their general life skills training.
 

What do you need to bring?

•  Your dog! Wearing a flat collar, and harness if you use one.
• A training lead – no retractable or slip leads please.
• Treats!  As we use reward based training we ‘pay’ our dogs for working for us.  Please bring really tasty treats – chicken, cheese, ham… they only need to be really small – think pea sized! 
• A mat or blanket for your dog to settle on when not working

Please note:

- I am not a ‘gun dog trainer’. This is a fun puppy gun dog class that covers the foundations of some of the core skills gun dogs require. It will though give you an insight into positive gun dog training & give you a head start should you want to continue with a positive gun dog trainer.
- We train regardless of the weather unless it is unsafe to do - please come dressed appropriately.
- For this class your puppy should be comfortable around other dogs and people.  If they aren't please get in touch so that we can find the right training solution for them (please note: I don’t offer 121 training but can refer you on to some great local trainers who do).
